I am 50% sure that I didn't loose any kids during my 5 days duration (surely 50% is better than 49%).
Hokitika School has around 150 kids up to Year 6. A really good school with supportive staff. I was here for a week back in 2012, so it was nice to go back again.
The kids in one of the classes thought I was a really good teacher, if only for a brief moment. As I am always late letting the kids go, I thought I would try and get the kids out on time on this particular day. I did it, and was dead on time. However, there was one small little hiccup (we shall call it having a senior moment). I got the class out on time alright, but it was just I was at the wrong school. I had spent a while in a school where school ended at 2.45. However, it was not this one so I found out. Then it was a quick oral language lesson, and time to round up the herd to bring back to class until the true end of school at 3pm. Now if you are reading this and you are a school looking at getting me in, please disregard this last paragraph.
I had a really great week and the staff are a fun bunch of professionals.
I have now returned to CHCH over the weekend, which so far will see me teaching at Southbridge and Greta Valley Schools for the new week. I wonder what time I shall let the kids out at these schools?
Below are some images of my last week at Hokitika School and a few of the things I did in a few of the classes. There are also a couple of small video clips which shows part of the school grounds.
While I was teaching this week at Hokitika, I stayed at 'Cloud9 Lifestyle Park', which is about 6kms North of Hokitika. For video clips and info re this park, see my 'Travelling? Accommodation Options' page in the above menu.
